Taxonomy
The specimen imaged is from Malaysia, GTE. The holotype of Rhodoneura ornata van Eecke, 1929:100 is from Sumatra (Fort de Kock). ms comb. n. to Hypolamprus (Shaffer, 1992; LepIndex).
Incorrectly synonymised with:
- H. emblicalis Moore, [1888] 1887
There appears to be a considerable range in wingspan (15-25mm) and wing pattern, associated with the group of morphotypes that resemble Hypolamprus ornata and H. emblicalis which need further attention.
Description
A complex patterning mainly in pinkish brown. The pale brown FW with darker reticulation has a crude cross-shaped postmedian fascia in darker red-brown. The HW has a dark brown median band. The posterior part of the abdomen is a darker brown.
Similar Species
Some specimens may be sspp., others may be good spp. See Hypolamprus spp. 4 & 5 which are similar in much of their patterning.
Life History
Foodplant: Falcataria moluccana (Fabaceae).
