Taxonomy
Image: Holotype, Java Telawa. The holotype of Rhodoneura chrysothalama Meyrick, 1934: 539 is in the NHM (Mi7379), ms comb. n. to Hypolamprus (Shaffer, 1992 LepIndex).
Description
A small brown species closely resembling H. bastialis. The reticulate patterning shows few distinct fasciae except on the terminal and apical areas. The FW apex has a small triangular area containing two small dark spots as in H. bastialis. The NHM series contains two morphotypes, one closely resembling the illustrated holotype, the other from Dumoga Bone NP (Hogsback Camp, 492m), is slightly larger (19.5mm), more closely resembling Hypolamprus sp. 9 than the holotype (Plate 5, Fig. 149a).
Similar Species
Rhodoneura melilialis Swinhoe, 1900: 312 (not illustrated here) from Australia (Q) & New Guinea is similar. See H. bastialis for differences from that species and H. bracteata.
Life History
The holotype was found as a larva, feeding on leaves of the kalumpit tree (Terminalia edulis) Combretaceae (LepIndex).
