Nymphicula sp. 2

Taxonomy

Nymphicula sp. 2 is an unnamed morphotype nr. N. mesorphna (syn. Meyrick, 1894b: 10) and N. blandialis (syn. Walker, 1859c: 488). Seen in the BMNH and HSB Colls.

Description

A small species with typical Nymphicula patterning in dark brown orange and white with leaden patches near the FW apex. The HW has serrate black subterminal line, and four marginal eyespots like blandialis (N. kinabaluensis has five eyespots) Note the white median patch of scales on the FW is different in both specimens and in the specimen illustrated it is bilaterally asymetric; a spot on the right FW and a streak on the left FW. It differs from N. blandialis by the shape, size and distinctness of the white post median patch extending from the FW costa. The HW submarginal line tucks into the gaps between the spots and this differs slightly from the male holotype of N. tripunctata illustrated by Yoshiyasu (1978, Fig. 33, F). Similar to Nymphicula blandialis & Nymphicula sp. 9.
