Taxonomy
The holotype of Hemiscopis sanguinea Bänziger, 1987 (:678, 679 figs 16, 17, 28, 29.) from Thailand, (Chiang Mai, Doi Suthep, Khonthatarn Waterfall) is in the DEFAC. Paratypes are in the BMNH and the MNHG, including one from W. Malaysia (Perak, Taiping).
Description
This sp. is distinctive with a purple base colour and a bronzy red sheen. Bänziger (1987) illustrates the male genitalia (figs 18-21). See Hydrorybina polusalis (Walker, 1880) which is superficially similar but has differently shaped fasciae.
Life History
The male moths are zoophilous imbibing animal secretions such a sweat and tears (Bänziger, 1987), often from around the eyes.
