Taxonomy

Imaged specimen is from Sabah, PHS, Por 8a. The holotype of Glanycus coendersi Kalis, 1934 is from E. Java. It was once thought a ssp. of G. insolitus Walker ([1857] 1855: 635) but is now considered a good sp.

ms comb. n. (Shaffer 1987 LepIndex; RTS:125).

Description

This is a striking bluish-black and red coloured species. There is a large fenestra on the HW and a smaller one on the FW. This species lacks the dorsal abdominal red central streak and small submarginal spots which are especially noticeable on G. insolitus Walker, 1855, which is otherwise very similar.

Life History

The larvae have been recorded feeding on the leaves of Liquidambar formosana (Hamamelidaceae), sweet gum, and Schefflera octophylla (Araliaceae).
