Evergestis scopicalis Hampson

Taxonomy

The female holotype of Pionea scopicalis Hampson, 1908c: 584 Pl. E, fig. 28 [op. p. 44] from Sri Lanka (Uva Province) is in the BMNH; Pyralidae Brit. Mus. genitalia slide no. 13103

comb. n. to Evergestis (Nuss 1998: 518)

Description

The rather poor specimen (illustrated) from Sabah was seen in the ARC Tuaran. It needs verification but its fasciation and elongated abdomen resembles Hampson’s illustration. (Hampson 1908c Pl. E. fig. 28). Note Hampson’s text refers to Pl. E fig 37 which is incorrect. The figure shows a FW with a broad indented brown submarginal band, a dark basal area, plus a less distinct median band. There is an diffuse spot in the disco-ocellular area and small neural spots at the FW margin. The pale HW is unmarked. Note the rather elongate, rounded wings.
