Taxonomy
The holotype of Botys tricoloralis Zeller, 1852: 31-32 from South Africa (Kwazulu-Natal) is in the SBMNH. Genitalia slide Shaffer #1796.
- syn. Botys confusalis Warren 1896: 218. (Shaffer et al. 1996). TL Meghalaya, Khasia Hills.
Isopteryx abnegatalis (Walker 1959c: 404), formerly considered a junior syn. (Shaffer et al. 1996) was reinstated as a separate sp. by Shaffer & Munroe (2007).
There may be an undescribed sp. which could be causing the confusion between E. tricoloralis and E. bracteolalis (Zeller 1852) and their syntypes should be re-assessed.
Description
A dark brown and yellow sp. with metallic scaled patches. Note the light scattering scales on FW & HW which appear blue at some angles. E. bracteolalis is very similar and is confused with this sp. but it has fewer dark marking, especially on the HW, and no irridescent blue patches (see RTS, 1994). E. tricoloralis is illustrated in Wang & Speidel (2000: 97) incorrectly designated as E. bractealis.
