Taxonomy

The holotype of Sameodes pictalis Swinhoe, 1895b: 303 is from India (Cherrapunjee). As Sameodes in Globiz. (See Munroe (1955) who discusses the genus). Although it is associated as Epipagis in several informal publications its generic placement is in doubt. It could possibly be considered in the genus Eusabena revived by Shaffer et al. 1996 but we treat it in Epipagis.

Description

A distinctive large showy sp. in orange, pinks and brown marked by several white spots. The specimen from Thailand in the BMNH, figured, is larger than most specimens which range from 26 to 38mm in wingspan. The holotype is 27mm. Schulze Taxon #110.
