Taxonomy
The holotype of Pyrausta punctimarginalis Hampson, 1896: 438 is from India, Sikkim [Sikhim] & Indonesia (Sulawesi [Celebes]). Various specimens seen in several collections. Specimen illustrated from the Schulze Coll. det. as nr. by Spiedel 1998 but he notes 'very large'
comb. n. to Pleuroptya Inoue (1982) Vol. 1: 342; vol. 2: pl. 40 figs 7-8. Treated in Patania by Globiz.
All morphospecies like this are best examined genitalically as there may be similar, cryptic species.
Description
A yellowish fulvous sp. with darker orange markings which become more purple-tinged distally. The main markings on the FW are diffuse incomplete, lines basally, antemedianally and post-medianally. In addition on the FW is a diffuse elongated stigma in the discocellular area and a purplish subtermenal band divided into square blocks by the orange venation. The HW has a diffuse irregular purplish median band and a purplish subtermenal band crossed by orange venation. There is a short orange dash antemedianally towards the anterior margin. Schulze (2000) taxon #154 as ‘Pleuroptya nr punctimarginalis’, tmw/kitching taxon #451.
