Taxonomy
The holotype of Leucocraspeda auratalis Warren, 1895: 472-3 is from Japan.
- syn. Pionea auratalis ab. obscura Caradja in Caradja & Meyrick, 1935: 41 (infrasubsp.). TL China (Lungtan).
Comb. n. to Pyrausta (Matuura, 1954: 3). As Paliga in Wang & Spiedel 2000: 267 & Globiz. As Mimudea in LepIndex. Generic position uncertain. We are treating it in Ecpyrrhorrhoe for the moment.
Specimens from Sabah ostensibly this species under a variety of names in many collections but may be misidentified.
Its occurrence in Borneo needs reassessment.
Description
A pale fulvous sp. with FW with a curving brown slightly irregular antemedian line a median line which runs basally accross the subcosta and then curves outward toward the rear margin parallel to the antemedian line. The median line is more distinct in the cell area. A similar post median line which curves gently towards the tornus but finishes in the centre. The HW has a curving median and a postmedian line both of which do not extend to the wing margins. The forelegs are distinctively white, banded in fulvous near the joints. The underside is greyish white with an indistinct white neck collar. The frons is pale fulvous with white above the eyes. The thorax and abdomen are also fulvous with paler inter-segmental bands on the latter. Mutuura (1954: 13, pl. 3 fig. 17) gives an overall description and illustrates the male & female genitalia. . All Ecpyrrhorrhoe spp. are best determined by genitalic examination.
