Deanolis Sp. 1
- Family: Crambidae
- Subfamily: Odontiinae
- Genus: Deanolis
- Distribution: W. Malaysia, Sabah.
- Habitat: Hill primary forest & disturbed areas, 600-630m.
- Wing Length: 10mm
Taxonomy
Deanolis sp. 1. nr. Sceliodes iriocapna Meyrick 1938: 82. A single unnamed specimen from Sabah (PHS) in the Schulze Coll. Others from W. Malaysia (GTE) are in the HSB Coll.
Until the holotype of D. iriocapna is re-examined the sp. is best considered as valid and not a syn. of D. sublimbalis as Shaffer’s 1997 note on the LepIndex card suggests.
Description
This morphotype superficially resembles D. sublimbalis (Snellen, [1900] 1989) with its yellow spotted thorax but it is smaller and more delicate and its wings have a more markedly angled termen, The marginal shading is less distinct and it lacks the small central spots of D. sublimbalis. Schulze (2000) taxon #651.
Life History
Since closely related Sceliodes spp. have been documented as egg plant [brinjal] (Solanum melongena) Solanaceae fruit borers, this sp.should be studied for possible pest status.
