Taxonomy

The holotype of Botys coclesalis Walker, 1859: 701 from Sarawak is in the BMNH. Comb. rev. to Crypsiptya (Trankner et al. 2009).

Description

The bright golden yellow and brown of fresh specimens fades quickly to pink-brownish shades and the postmedian and antemedian lines are usuually ill defined. The subtermenal area of both wings are brown but on the HW this is mainly towards the apex. Trankner et al. (2009: figs 22, 23) illustrate the male and female genitalia. A specimen (ID # NAFU Pyr000078) has been barcoded and the data is held in BOLD (Ratnasingham & Hebert, 2007). RTS:  179, Pl. 29, fig.20 figure another specimen from Singapore.

Life History

A major pest of bamboos in Central India, causing serious economic loss of growth and yield in nurseries, plantations and natural forests (Roychoudhury & Joshi 2008).
