Taxonomy

Clupeosoma sp. 2 is represented by two un-named male specimens from Sabah in the Schulze Coll and three in the SLS Coll.

Clupeosoma Snellen 1880: 203, exhibits sexual dimorphism with smaller males often with large tufts of hair scales on the FW.

Description

A purplish and fulvous sp. The margin and long fringes of both wings are a bright orange with small marginal neural dots. The pigmentation is confined to the anterior part of the HW which has a serrate submarginal line. This line is edged on its basal side by a broad, pale-cream fascia. In the sub-apical area of the FW costa (in the post median position) is a a very impressive curled tuft of fulvous scent scales which extend more sparsely across the wing in the post medial positon to posterior margin. . The body is brownish purple with paler intersegmental abdominal bands. Schulze (2000) taxon #648 ‘Clupeosoma sp. 1’. See other Clupeosoma spp.
