Taxonomy
The female holotype of Archernis albicostalis Hampson 1913: 331-332 is from Borneo (Sabah, Sandakan). The status of this sp. is unknown. LepIndex & Globiz treat it as a good sp.
Description
No specimen seen.
From Hampson’s (2013: 331-332) description:
Head white, palpi with some dark scales on dorsal part of second joint; thorax pale brown, whitish in front; abdomen pale brown ; pectus, legs, and ventral surface of abdomen white. FW pale brown, the costal area white to near apex, a rectangular white spot at end of the cell links to the costal area; cilia white at base. HW pale brown, the costal area white to near apex; cilia whitish at base. Uns. of both wings white.
Probably not an Archernis from Hampson’s description it may be a Protonoceras Warren, 1890, gen. rev. as a good genus (Shaffer et al, 1996). Syn. Metoportha Meyrick, 1894, syn. n. (Shaffer et al, 1996)
Note: Both Protonoceras, Warren, 1890 and Metoportha Meyrick, 1894: 463. TS Botys dolopsalis Walker, 1859, by monotypy were designated as syns. of Archernis by Hampson 1899: 180.
